Working with your child

I work to enhance and support all aspects of the distance learning experience for your child including content support in all subjects, supplemental lessons to enrich learning, technological support with online resources and apps, organizational support with assignments and due dates, and more.
Working with you

I enjoy meeting with parents after our session to check in and provide you with feedback on your child’s learning including reviewing and understanding assessment data, organization techniques and maintenance to encourage between sessions, and general discussion regarding progress and challenges.
Working In-between Sessions

I will be checking your child’s online classroom throughout the week updating you with information regarding new assignments, graded assignments, feedback from teachers, and more. I will be accessible to your child via chat, email, and live document interaction Monday through Friday from 8 am - 5 pm and will respond as soon as possible.

Brightside Online Learning - Parent Support

Provide guidance to help parents navigate their child’s online curriculum and ensure learning outcomes are achieved
Develop a curriculum map that outlines learning goals for the semester, offering lesson/content suggestions, assessment tools to guide instruction and track learning, resources to support engagement, projects that ensure independent skill and concept practice, and more
Tutorials with online learning technology including Google Suite/Google Classroom, Zoom (and other video connection apps), introduce tech resources to support distance learning

Learning Plan

This includes both Learning Support and Parent Support services and goes beyond by providing online curriculum and instruction crafted specifically for your child. I use a variety of guides including parent input, Colorado Academic Standards, diagnostic assessments I create and administer, as well as first-hand experience working with your child to develop a six-week curriculum overview/map with grade level lesson topics in the primary subjects. These lessons include both subject based and cross-curricular activities which means that multiple subjects exist within the lesson. These activities range from daily lesson finished by the end of our session to projects that extend for several weeks.

Assist development of technological skills by supporting your child with the navigation of the Google Suite, instructional guidance using video connection applications (Google Meet, Zoom, etc.), and introducing a variety of new educational tech resources within lessons
Develop organizational and time management practices using Google Suite including daily check-ins with assignment and to-do lists, consistently highlighting the main ideas/priorities of lessons, activities, and projects, reviewing timeline and sequence enabling your child to develop step-by-step processes for achieving goals and problem solving
Instruction and guidance with self-actualization practices including setting long and short term learning goals, guiding reflection on academic skills and growth revealed through assessments, updating or revising learning goals, and more
Administer assessments before, during, and after learning to ensure skill mastery and offer opportunities for your child to reflect on the assessment feedback, identifying their strengths and struggles in empowering ways
Providing meaningful and easily interpreted assessment data to reflect growth and achievement over time

Getting Organized

Working together, we develop an organization plan ending with your child setting their goal for the week.

Action

Together we get started on the topics and assignments from your child’s distance learning class. I may use a quick diagnostic assessment to inform me of your child’s knowledge and skill level before moving into our lesson. The lesson format will always be delivered in this way:

First, I teach the skill or concept. This can include reading or watching videos together, reviewing a slide deck, looking at interactive notes and examples of the strategy/skill in use. Throughout this process, I will be asking questions about the text/content to check for understanding, using this to determine when to move into the next step.
Next, we begin guided practice. There are many forms I use including interactive notes, practice problems, graphic organizers for analyzing similarities/differences, identifying character traits, and more. I model the skill/activity asking questions that encourage your child to assess my work as we move forward through the process.
Last, your child begins independent practice. I witness your child’s process, giving them space to work independently while providing guidance when requested. Once finished, we assess your child’s work together and I provide detailed feedback on their skill in use.

Conclude

At the end of each session, I guide your child in reflection of what we accomplished focusing on what they learned, what they accomplished, what tools and techniques work well for them, and more. We can record their reflection in the organization plan.

Connecting with Parents

I encourage parents to join me for a brief five minute check-in at the end of the session to ensure tools, techniques, and strategies learned are transferred to home or I can provide written reports via email.
